Life As We Knew It by Beth Pfeffer

Let me warn you. If you start reading this book, you will be engrossed. Even though there are a few slow parts, and it gets pretty sad at some parts, I kept reading because I knew there would be a cliff hanger coming up. The characters all have differently distinct personalitys and you can sense through the words what they are feeling and going through . This book is through a teenage girl's view, she is a figure skater, and her name is Miranda. Her family is a normal family with two brothers but her parents are divorced. But when a meteor hits the moon and knocks it closer in orbit to the earth, nothing will ever be the same. Included in the chaotic aftermath of this collision are worldwide tidal waves, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. It was broadcasted all over America that on this one night a meteor would hit the moon. No one is scared because they are all too caught up in excitement of something that has never happened before. On that night, everybody in Miranda's town is outside and ready to watch the collision. But the nightmare is about to start. After that night (the book is written as journal entries that Miranda records), the electricity starts to go out in their house, and in the houses of everybody in the town. They soon find out that the rest of the world is experiencing the same problem. Then the problem is food shortage. After that multiplying deaths. This is a story about survival, love and trust, and coming together. Because nothing will ever be the same.
