The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
This book is the first book of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, my favorite series ever. I read the books in fifth grade, and I recently noticed them again on my book shelf. If you are a fan of fantasy/mystery/fiction, this book is absolutely perfect for you. Even for someone who hasn't really given a thought or liked fantasy and mystery before, this series will make you love the genres! So basically what this book is about is this boy, Percy Jackson, who has a mother and no father (his father abandoned them while his mom was pregnant). Percy's mother has a boyfriend who is a slob and is rude, and Percy doesn't like him one bit. Percy goes to boarding school, and he has a best friend there named Grover. Grover is secretly half-man half-goat. Lately, he has been having mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olmypus appearing often, and as he puts it, walking straight out of his Greek mythology textbook. He keeps getting messages that Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the biggest suspect. One day when he and his mom are on a road trip, they encounter a giant monster that takes Percy's mom away. Percy's life immediately turns into a dangerous, swashbuckling adventure. He meets amazing people, goes on a quest to find the bolt and prove to Zeus he is not the thief, and figures out his true self. If you want to find out why he is the suspect and what Percy later learns who he really is (hint hint) read this book! It is so good and I recommend it to everyone! There are many cliff hangers and it is so well written. Great read!!
